Born in New York City in 1964, Doze Green is a pioneer of contemporary American street art. A b-boy member of the legendary Rock Steady Crew - the hip-hop trailblazers of breakdancing and graffiti tagging - Doze Green begun his career as a street artist, painting subway cars in 1970s New York. Having established his name on the street scene, Doze Green shifted to studio work and public and private commissions, including a large-scale mural for Sao Paolo’s fashion week and a huge, 20x80ft public wall-painting in Las Vegas. Today, his murals can be seen around the world, in cities across the USA, UK, Japan, and Brazil.

Doze Green’s work is inspired by a rich variety of sources: from the work of H. P. Lovecraft to Japan’s Edo Period; from space-time theory to metaphysics; from cubism to abstract expressionism, Doze Green fuses styles and approaches for a unique and complex aesthetic. His process is driven by the kinetic flow of action painting, using figurative abstraction to create fragmented characters in fantastical worlds. Drawing on an organic model of contemporary cubism, Doze Green builds up layers of concentric lines and shifting planes, interweaving structurally loose sections with highly detailed elements. Using black gesso and Sumi ink, Doze Green incorporates calligraphic forms and chaotic, intuitive brushstrokes to unfold rich abstract narratives.

Doze Green has exhibited in solo and group shows around the world, including: Webbs Gallery in Auckland, New Zealand; Carlos Irizarry Gallery in San Juan, Puerto Rico; 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco; Space Time Light Gallery in New York; and Jonathan Levine Gallery in New York. His work is held in numerous private and public collections across the USA, Asia and Europe.
