Jane Burrows is a contemporary painter and printmaker living and working in London. Life drawing is central to her work having been both master and muse in the life drawing studio. She creates bold hand pressed monotypes from abstract compositions of the individualities and peculiarities of the female form.
By juxtaposing shape and colour and building up layers of paint on acetate a softly textured aesthetic reminiscent of a wood or lino cut is achieved. Jane has held a number of solo exhibitions in France where she previously had a studio and has also exhibited widely across the UK. By playing with perspective, her work merges the abstract with the figurative, placing gender at its core to quietly question cultural expectations of the female form. To achieve a softly textured aesthetic, Burrows uses water mixable oil paints, juxtaposing shape and colour, building up layers, and transferring the pigment from acetate to paper via rubbing. The result is reminiscent of a wood or lino cut, suffused with a deeply modern sensitivity. Burrows has held a number of solo shows in France, where she had a studio before moving to Hove, and has also exhibited widely across the UK. Burrows is now a member of Hove Arts Association and was featured in Kemptown Open House, 2016 and 2017.
What is Archival Giclée
Giclée (/ʒiːˈkleɪ/ zhee-KLAY) is a neologism, ultimately derived from the French word gicleur, coined in 1991 by printmaker Jack Duganne for fine art digital prints made using inkjet printers. The name was originally applied to fine art prints created on a modified Iris printer in a process invented in the late 1980s. It has since been used widely to mean any fine-art printing, usually archival, printed by inkjet. It is often used by artists, galleries, and print shops for their high quality printing, but is also used generically for art printing of any quality.
