Stylus is a detailed oil painting by Ian Robinson intended to draw our attention to the discarded objects of the past. Like much of Ian’s work, this piece is inspired by the artist's own personal collection of items, which he has collected from libraries and second-hand shops over the years.
We love how Ian’s talent for oil painting allows him to create beautiful, highly detailed artworks that conjure up a sense of nostalgia amongst their viewers. This artwork would be the perfect addition to a gallery wall or could stand alone as a statement piece.

Ian is a London-based artist who creates detailed oil paintings that carry a sense of nostalgia, drawing on iconography from past decades. Ian is a London-based artist who creates detailed oil paintings that carry a sense of nostalgia, drawing on iconography from past decades. His lovingly curated collections of records, magazines and books and other ephemera celebrate these outdated objects that were discarded by the masses after the introduction of new technology.
We love how Ian’s work revels in the collected material found in libraries and second hand shops, giving new life to objects that were no longer wanted. Ian was born in Northumberland and worked in the Oil and Gas industry, before moving to London to study painting. Ian graduated from Wimbledon College of Art in 2011, and was granted a graduate residency at Muse Gallery in Notting Hill. Ian has continued to work with The Muse Gallery since his first solo show in 2011, and has participated in a variety of other group and solo shows across the country. Ian’s Still Life paintings can be found in Landmark Space’s permanent collection in London. Two of Ian’s works, Remix and Favourites, were included in the 2020 Northern Lights Art prize. We’ve been working with Ian Robinson since 2021.

His photo-realistic paintings of miscellaneous items are reminiscent of the piles of books, records and files that sit discarded in our own houses, forgotten in the busy cycle of day-to-day life. Ian brings attention back to these overlooked objects and gives them a new sense of purpose.
How long will it take for my artwork to arrive?
We aim to dispatch unframed artwork within 7 working days of receiving your order. Postage within the UK takes around 1-3 working days. Custom framed items are usually dispatched within 21 working days of receiving your order. For more information, see our delivery page.
What is your returns policy?
Once you receive your artwork, you have 14 days to return it and get a full refund if you're not happy. If you would like to return an artwork, please contact us first at support@artrepublic.com. It is your responsibility to cover the return postage. Our returns' policy excludes items that are hand-made to order, such as artwork that has been framed, purchased as part of a timed release, or commissioned. These can only be returned if they are faulty.
How much does delivery cost?
UK delivery is free on orders over £100. Framed artworks cost £15 and we can only ship these within the UK. We also offer pick up from our studio. Worldwide delivery is dependent on location. For more information on delivery costs, head to our delivery page.
What payment methods are accepted?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Maestro. We also accept payment via PayPal, Apple Pay, Shop Pay and Klarna. We also offer financing through Own Art. Payment will be taken as soon as your order has been placed.
Can I get my artwork framed?
Yes! We work with a network of expert framers, and you can add a selection of frames to an artwork on the artwork page. Please see our framing page for more details, as well as information on additional styles that we can offer.
