Kevin Cummins was born in 1953 in Manchester, he is a British photographer known for his work with rock bands and musicians including Mick Jagger, Ian Curtis, Morrissey, Courtney Love, Patti Smith, and David Bowie.
After studying photography in Salford, Cummins began photographing rock bands in Manchester’s growing punk scene of the 1970s. His work has been featured on record covers and in fine art institutions, and he is associated with the Madchester and Cool Britannia movements. Cummins spent ten years as the chief photographer for NME and was a founding contributor to the influential style magazine The Face, where he won an award for Magazine Cover of the Year.
His iconic portraits of diverse rock musicians have graced magazine covers and galleries the world over and are included in the collection of The National Portrait Gallery and The V&A amongst others.
