    Details

The work of Louise McNaught takes its inspiration form the natural world: elevating the status of animals to the majestic and sublime, McNaught’s work offers a powerful comment on humanity’s environmental impact, raising awareness of endangered species through her profoundly symbolic ‘drip’ motif.

A tropical-blue background frames the detailed portrait of a young giraffe: big brown eyes staring serenely from the stately face, as butterflies in hand applied copper leaf flutter at the fringes. McNaught’s signature bleed motif leaves empty sections in the beast’s patterned pelt: a symbolic, visual ebbing away for a powerful statement on the giraffe’s increasingly endangered status.
