Contemporary print-artist Miriam Lobo has an eye for the iconic. Recently discovering the art of printmaking in Barcelona, Lobo took a detour from her academic training in neuropsychology to pursue her new-found calling. All of her prints are hand-made by Lobo herself, who loves to explore with photography, bringing colour-blocking and high-saturation to bear on existing images. Inspired by the Abstract Expressionist and Pop Art greats of the 1950s and 60s - including Mark Rothko, Robert Rauschenberg, and Andy Warhol - Lobo’s work has a distinctly retro flavour, updated with twenty-first century technologies of skilled image manipulation. Themes of persistence and repetition pervade her work, making the old new with a deft artistic sensitivity. Still early in her career, Lobo has already received large-scale commissions for corporate spaces. And now, with a range of limited edition prints at artrepublic, you can let Lobo’s vintage spirit into your own home. Bright, bold, and edgy, the contemporary print-work of Miriam Lobo is undoubtedly one to watch.
