The first thing that you should know about the artists Molly White and her husband John Dove is how, after many years, they are still truly deeply in love. The second is how passionate they still are about their work. John Dove is an illustrator, and Molly White is a textile designer. Together, they joined forces in art, instigating the fusion and convergence of music, fashion, art and graphics. In 1968 John Dove suggested that his wife should use his art prints as a subject for her screen printing course and since then their prints are produced on T-shirts, shirts, underwear, jackets, jeans and sometimes on paper - but the emphasis is on T-shirts: this is their preferred canvas. With an ambition to make their work democratic and affordable, the medium of printing t-shirts allowed them to respond promptly to contemporary news and events, reaching a much larger audience than any art gallery could provide.
