‘Tell Me Beautiful Untrue Things’ is a Giclee print with silkscreen glazes by art duo The Connor Brothers. From a limited edition of 150, the print is signed and numbered by the artist.
Fictional twin art duo The Connor Brothers - aka Franklyn and Brendan Connor -satirical and humorous work explores the blurring of boundaries between truth and fiction. Mimicking vintage book cover imagery, often from romantic novels or Shakespeare classics, the artists reproduce the covers as large scale acrylic and oil paintings, modifying the book titles with their own text, changing the message while maintaining the context.
‘Tell Me Beautiful Untrue Things’ depicts a seductive, 1950s woman, her platinum blonde hair falling about her face, her soft, exposed skin wrapped loosely in white bed sheets, as a sultry cigarette perches between her fingers. Set against a textured turquoise background, the title words have been printed in blocky, white lettering, recalling sultry film noir posters with a postmodern twist.
