Contemporary artist Whatshisname fuses the digital with the traditional to create provocative works of art. Attempting to express the ineffable, Whatshisname challenges his viewer to refocus on the world around them, questioning what they see in unorthodox and unconventional ways. Often parodic, and always saturated with humour and irony, Whatshisname’s work is powerfully visual, creating instantaneous connection with every viewer.
Satirising the postmodern preoccupation with all things kitsch, ‘OMG - Red’ takes the form of a small, red statue of the Virgin Mary, a smart phone in her hand. Brilliantly irreverent - not only for Christian sanctity, but for the now-revered status of aesthetic postmodernism - ‘OMG - Red’ touts itself as a ‘souvenir of the mobile phone infested times’, readying itself for the technological changes hiding around the bend.
