The fork-tailed woodnymph (Thalurania furcata) is a species of hummingbird in the family Trochilidae. It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, subtropical or tropical moist montane forest, and heavily degraded former forest. Endangered status: Least Concern . Hummingbirds traditionally symbolise joy, luck and were seen as messengers from the Gods. This is reflected in the bright colours used for the background of these pieces painted on tradition wood panel, highlighted in divine gold leaf.
