Ansel Adams Artist Biography
Ansel Adams is best known for his majestic black and white photographs of Yosemite National Park. He took his first photograph in the park in 1916 with his fatherﾒs Box Brownie camera and continued to visit the park every year from then onwards.He was born in 1902 and showed promise as a pianist before devoting his life to photography. He was not only a gifted photographer but also wrote and taught extensively on photography and photographic techniques. Looking at the pictures Adams took on his travels through New Mexico and California it is not surprising to learn that Adams was a committed environmentalist. He died in 1984 and shortly after his death The Minarets Wilderness in the Inyo National Forest was renamed the Ansel Adams Wilderness in his honour.
