‘Wired for Sound’ is an original sculptural piece by contemporary artist Lucy Bryant.
Sculpture Height: 13cm. Bell Jar: 21cm
Lucy Bryant is a contemporary artist and graphic designer, whose work is influenced by Pop art and the Punk music scene. Responding to contemporary culture, Bryant’s art subverts the everyday and the banal, always striving to disrupt the ordinary and create something entirely new. A novel take on ‘found art’, her work appropriates classic, antiquated pieces, steering away from the masters towards the unloved and the unknown, those over-worked pastiches that fill the tables of junk shops.
Onto these, Bryant has added anachronistic motifs to create a jarring and unexpected end result. For ‘Wired for Sound’, Bryant has taken the chintzy porcelain figure of a young rural girl in period dress, as she perches on a countryside bench, a pair of big, white headphones encircling her elegant head and wired up to the little iPod that sits beside her. Enclosed within a bell-jar viewing case, Bryant’s piece is a brilliant expression of kitsch art, brought up to date with an iconic, twenty-first century twist.
