This museum quality print is of Marc Chagall’s 1950 oil on canvas painting ‘La Mariée’ (French for ‘The Bride’).
La Mariee features a young woman in her vivid red wedding dress clutching her bouquet of flowers. A long white veil covers her head. As in many of his works, Marc Chagall
mixes the real word with fantasy, painting hybrid creatures that seem to be straight out of the medieval tales of his native Belarus. The open edition print (and a fake of the original) appeared in the 1999 romcom Notting Hill.
