Tracey Emin

Tracey Emin is an English artist known for her autobiographical and confessional artwork. A prominent member of the Young British Artists (YBAs), Tracy Emin works in a wide range of mediums, including film, painting, neon, embroidery, drawing, installation, and sculpture. Known for their confrontational subject matter and portrayal of taboo subjects, her works are intensely personal, revealing intimate details of her life with brutal honesty and poetic humour. She has spoken of “the narcissism behind what I do—the self, self, self—and how difficult it is for me to really share things, even though I think I am sharing all the time.” This paradoxical approach earned Tracey Emin a nomination for the Turner Prize in 1999. Though she did not win, Tracey Emin received significant acclaim for her installation titled ‘My Bed’, which featured her bed, covered in condoms, stains, and cigarettes as it appeared during a time of emotional trauma, evoking the most essential and universal of human emotions. While she has received significant critical attention for her work, she remains highly a successful and regarded artist of our time.
