‘The 80s’ is a Giclée print by contemporary artist Dirty Hans. From a limited edition of 95, the print is signed and numbered by the artist.
Contemporary artist Dirty Hans cites Toulouse-Lautrec and Lichtenstein amongst his greatest influences: an unlikely pairing of art greats, the result is Dirty Hans’ own unique and striking aesthetic, by turns gritty and poppy, in artful measures. His work riffs off 1950s pop culture, from music to movies to magazines, updating Pop Art styles with an innovative combination of acrylic and spray-paint on canvas, merged with digital techniques.
‘The 80s’ depicts all of our favourite cultural memories fro that most iconic of decades: on the horizon, ET and Elliott pedal across the moon, while Superman reclines on top of a yellow taxi cab, containing Michael Jackson in Thriller get-up. Meanwhile, Doc and Marty check their watches, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man rises in the background, Freddy Krueger loiters in the shadows, and a scrap heap of nostalgic iconography - from MTV to the Atari console - fills the foreground.
