Abstract Expressionist

Abstract expressionism refers to abstract art that emerged in American during the 1940s and 1950s. Artists in the movement sought to express emotions and the unconscious through abstract art with the use of gestural brush strokes and spontaneous style. The main artists included Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Franz Klein, Robert Motherwell and Willem de Kooning.
