Leda Catunda was born in Sao Paulo in 1961 and the daughter of architect and landscaper Vera Catunda Serra and Geraldo Serra Gomes. Leda Catunda’s works involve a degree of intimidation and exudes generosity and exuberance. Her works go between the languages of painting, sculpture, popular culture and craft as well as materials from the world and her own collage creations. Her methods involved the incorporation and transfiguration of the materials of everyday life; woven fabrics, flat objects – all of which are rich in texture and intense in colour - My choice of colour is always very simple, very direct. Therefore, it bears a strong affinity with popular art. Primary colours, without much elaboration. I`m not interested in the idea of good painting. It is useless as far as my work is concerned’ – Leda Catunda. We have a gorgeous selection of Limited Edition prints from artist Leda Catunda here at artrepublic.
