‘Girls Who Like Cars’ is an 8 colour Silkscreen print by acclaimed British artist Magda Archer. Printed onto 300gsm Somerset Satin paper, the print is finished with a varnish overlay. From a limited edition of 35, the print is signed by the artist.
Illustrator and contemporary artist Magda Archer produces an aesthetic like no other. Inspired by all things kitsch and colourful, her work draws heavily on the Pop-Art greats, injecting a dose of its own surreal character along the way, for sensational results.
Fun and frivolous, colourful and fruity, Archer’s prints are full of an alluring charm that we just can’t get enough of. ‘Girls Who Like Cars’ does 1950s kitsch to perfection: a pretty, blonde-haired girl in a ruffly printed dress peers ponderously out of the centre of the print. The image is mounted onto a bold, yellow and pink background, surrounded by bright stars of colour and a series of miniature, retro cars, while the titular words sit at the bottom of the print, in bright-blue type.
The finished piece has the feel of an early Paolozzi collage, with its 50s vibe, mash-up of styles and careful attention to typography: a contemporary classic in the making.
