‘Framed Found Art: Red Band’ is a Giclée print, framed in a white wood box frame, by acclaimed British artist Peter Blake.

    Details

Godfather of British pop art, Sir Peter Blake, is one of the twentieth-century’s most prolific modern artists. Employing an astonishing array of styles and techniques, Blake’s work is nothing short of iconic: from the famous ‘Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ album cover - a meticulous collage of cult characters - to his compelling oil painting ‘Self Portrait With Badges’, Blake has developed a well-established and well-loved style over the last half a century.

Blake's ‘Found Art’ series explores a key tenet of the early pop-art movement, taking existing scraps and fragments from the commercial world and re-working them into fine art prints. ‘Found Art: Red Band’ uses an old Red Band cigarette packet, its black and red finish cracking to reveal the paper beneath. It’s a stark and simple piece: Blake has done nothing more than present the cigarette packet, letting the fact of its existence speak for itself. Musing on transiency, commodification and the nature of art, ‘Framed Found Art: Red Band’ is Bake at his very best.
