Oli Fowler is a contemporary British artist, who specialises in screen printing and graphic design. Not limited to a single process, Fowler incorporates graphics, illustration, photography and photomontage into his work, combining these different mediums with an experimental approach. His work fuses the figurative and the abstract, exploiting innovative compositional technique, sharp, defined shapes, and a pure CMYK palette, for a bold and arresting visual quality which is attuned to all things nostalgic.
‘Flavour’ depicts a greyscale, photographic portrait of a woman. Wearing big, retro headphones, he face is in profile, tilted upwards as she bites at the tip of an ice cream cone. For dynamic contrast, Fowler has placed the image against a loudly patterned, pink and yellow background. The result sits somewhere between collage and photomontage, for a uniquely characterful aesthetic, replete with 1960s overtones, while distinctly contemporary.
