Contemporary artist David Scheinmann brings his award winning background as a cutting edge commercial photographer to the world of art. His limited edition prints incorporate photographic elements with mixed media and silkscreen detailing to explore issues of cultural identity and popular iconography. ‘Elvis - Soldier’ depicts The King in his young days, pre-fame, kitted out in his army uniform and posing for an official photograph. The portrait has been hand coloured with saturated, technicolour tones, and Scheinmann has added a number of anachronistic badges to the singer’s garb: one reads ‘love me tender’; another depicts Elvis in his 1970s incarnation; while presidential campaign badges for both JFK and Nixon jostle amongst Betty Boop broaches, Mickey Mouse motifs, peace slogans and even a traditional Sheriff star. Visually compelling, ‘Elvis - Soldier’ is an artful merging of iconic American symbolism, captured with Scheinmann’s keen sensitivity for colour and composition.
