‘Dope’ is a Screen Print by contemporary artist Minty. Printed onto 1.4mm thick Bristol Board, the print is from a limited edition of 4 and is signed and numbered by the artist.
Contemporary artist Minty is known for his wheat paste-ups, which have enlivened the streets of Brighton with their bold and brave aesthetic. Instantly recognisable, Minty’s colourful work integrates cultural symbolism with absurdism and eroticism, often branded with the three, simple words, ‘I Love You’, and his own, stencilled sign-off. For ‘Dope’, Minty has mocked-up a Sun newspaper cover, featuring a Homer Simpson-related scandal.
The details are obscured by the graffiti’d outline of Homer’s face, scrawled over the top in a thick, black, line of spray-can pigment, and filled with peach-coloured cross-hatch. A single tear drops from the patriarch’s eye, while word ‘Dope’ fills the bottom of the print in large, red letters. Fantastically striking, Minty has captured all of the raw and dynamic energy of street art in this limited edition print.
