The work of contemporary artist Joe Webb sees a return to ‘analogue methods’ in beautifully retro style. Opting for painstakingly crafted collage techniques, Webb’s work is reminiscent of early Paolozzi, layering together found images and photographs from vintage magazines, to create surreal and often esoteric prints.
‘DJ’ depicts a 1950s illustration of Jupiter, hovering in the star-speckled solar system, and encircled by celestial, blue rings. Onto the print, Webb has overlaid the image of a hand, lifting the needle of a record player onto the planet’s circuitous loops. Looking at this striking print, we can only wonder at the space-age sounds produced by Webb’s interstellar imagination…
