‘Crystal Palace ii’ is a Screen Print by contemporary artist Jayson Lilley. Finished with diamond dust and gold leaf, the print is from a limited edition of 14, and is signed and numbered by the artist.
Contemporary artist Jayson Lilley works at the forefront of printmaking practices, incorporating painting and collage techniques into his process. His work is known for its urban and architectural focus reproducing iconic structures from the metropolis. His love of modernist, Art Deco and Brutalist architectural design is infectious, bleeding into his own work which is often stark and minimal, with strong impact: stripped back palettes - often concrete shades of grey - complement bold compositional techniques.
‘Crystal Palace ii’’ depicts the iconic television transmitter at Crystal Palace - once London’s tallest structure - nestled amongst leafy green trees. Lilley has summoned a 1950s sci-fi feel, laying gold leaf over the transmitter and creating hypnotic rings of diamond dust behind it, in the black night sky. The bricolage effect is striking, layering colour, tone and perspective, for a compelling piece of contemporary print work.
