Oli Fowler is a contemporary British artist, who specialises in screen printing and graphic design. Not limited to a single process, Fowler incorporates graphics, illustration, photography and photomontage into his work, combining these different mediums with an experimental approach. His work fuses the figurative and the abstract, exploiting innovative compositional technique, sharp, defined shapes, and a pure CMYK palette, for a bold and arresting visual quality which is attuned to all things nostalgic.
‘Clockwork’ is Fowler’s homage to Stanley Kubrick’s cult film Clockwork Orange. The print centres around imagery from the iconic 1960s film cover: Alex leans from inside a black, triangular abyss, glaring menacingly towards the viewer, a knife clutched in his hand. Around the original artwork, Fowler has layered stills from the film, awash with pink and orange pigment, to create a fragmented and abstracted aesthetic that artfully captures the chaotic horror of Kubrick’s vision.
