‘Chocolate Bar’ is a limited edition work from contemporary artist Eddy Bennett. Printed onto mirrored card, the print is from an edition of 3 and is signed and numbered by the artist.
Eddy Bennett is an internationally acclaimed British artist, whose typographical prints and originals are deeply reminiscent of the early Pop Art styles of Andy Warhol and Eduardo Paolozzi. True to Pop form, Bennett’s work turns around themes of consumerism and advertising, using collage techniques and bright, bold colours to evoke the nostalgia of retro branding. ‘Chocolate Bar’ responds to these consumerist tropes: against a pink, mirrored background the titular words dominate the frame, ‘chocolate’ in brown cursive script; ‘bar’ in huge, capitalised, golden letters, three-dimensional with red-coloured shadowing and a thin blue outline. Bennett’s print captures the glossy marketing strategies of the food industry, shot through with a distinctly 1950s feel, for a truly desirable work of contemporary Pop printing.
