‘Blue Cat’ is a Giclée print by Brighton artist Simon Dixon. Printed onto 330gsm Somerset Velvet Paper, the print is from a limited edition of 50 and is embossed and numbered.
Simon Dixon was a Brighton-based artist and print maker, whose fine art pieces centred around icons of the twentieth century. Dixon’s love of pop culture and deep interest in twentieth century history combine in a truly distinctive aesthetic: referencing 1960s Pop Art, his paintings are a big, bold and colourful reworking of the traditional portrait. ‘Blue Cat’ is an arrestingly striking print.
Against a mustard-yellow background, a large, cat-eye shape dominates the frame, in a tonally harmonious shade of blue. At the centre of the eye, in the elliptical space of the pupil, sits the silhouette of a cat, drawn with beautifully minimal lines while the words ‘Blue Cat’ adorn the print in white lettering. Truly iconic, this is contemporary Pop Art at its very best.
