Gavin Turk is a British born, international artist. Turk works primarily in bronze and wax sculptures, although he makes forays into photography and silkscreens. His works demonstrate an ongoing preoccupation with the philosophical idea of authenticity, the meaning of authorship, and the nature of originality. Instantly gaining notoriety through his work, his art prints are exhibited by many major galleries and museums throughout the world; including the Museum of Contemporary Arts in the Netherlands, the South London Gallery and the Almine Rech Gallery in Paris. He is especially well-known for a series of silkscreens mimicking popular posters of Che Guevara that feature the artist's own partially disguised face. He has also received many awards, the last one was the Honorary Doctorate in Arts, at the University of East London.
