Patrick Caulfield studied at the Royal College of Art and became known as one of the renowned ‘Pop’ artists, alongside the likes of David Hockney. His style, consisting of thick black lines and blocks of bright colour, were a strong influence on artists such as Julian Opie. Patrick Caulfield was born in 1936 in London, where he also studied. He took a great deal of time completing his work, making him less prolific than many artists. The time taken to complete each Patrick Caulfield artwork makes it all the more tragic that some of his works, held in the Saatchi collection, were destroyed by a fire in 2004. Patrick Caulfield passed away in 2005, and is buried in London’s Highgate Cemetery.
