Yves Klein

Yves Klein (1928-1962) was a French Artist who had an enormous influence on the minimalist art movement. Chiefly noted for his monochrome art prints and for his audacious experiments with new techniques, he brought a new attitude to art. Yves Klein is remembered above all, for his trademark ultramarine pigment, which he patented as International Klein Blue in 1961. “Blue...is beyond dimensions, whereas the other colours are not,” he said. The success of his sadly short-lived career lay in attacking many of the ideas that underpinned the abstract painting that had been dominant in France since the end of the Second World War. The seductive beauty of much of his work continues to inspire.
