Sarah Hardacre is a contemporary artist whose sensual and politically stirring work can be found in the collections of the British Council, the Irish Museum of Contemporary Art and numerous private collections throughout Europe and the US. Based in Salford, England, Sarah uses collage to depict sensual and glamorous women in drab, housing complexes of the inner city skyline. Her images are sourced from local history archives and old fashioned ‘gentlemen’s magazines’. While the subject matter of these works can be viewed as a biographical fetishism of the artist, these pieces are far from being a feminist critique. She is particularly focused on raising the question of the changing role of women within the home and working class society. Sarah Hardacre enacts also in her practice to highlight the nostalgia of the woman’s body before mass spray tanning, primping and posing became the norm.
