Edgar Degas

Edgar Degas (1834 –1917) was a highly celebrated 19th century French Painter and sculptor. Although he was regarded as one of the founders of Impressionism, he rejected the term, and preferred to be called a ‘Realist’. He works in various forms including; painting, sculpture, printmaking and drawing but mostly depicted dancers. These art forms display his mastery in the depiction of movement, that considered his portraits to be among the finest in the history of art. Influenced by Japanese art prints, his work helped shape the fine art landscape for years to come and stay timeless.
