It comes from a series Stanley Donwood produced for Radiohead’s album 'Hail to the Thief'. These paintings were based on the idea of urban real estate filled with words gleaned from both the lyrics on the album and the streets of Los Angeles. It was in LA Stanley Donwood noticed that almost all advertising materials used a basic palette of seven colours, and he went on to use these in this series of paintings. This image is of West Hollywood, where it merges into Beverley Hills.
