This is one of a series of chalk figures painted by Ravilious before and during the World War II. The White Horse of Uffington in the Berkshire Downs dates back to the Bronze Age, circa 1000 BC. It is by far the oldest of the white horse figures in Britain, and has a unique design. Chesterton’s poetry and the music and album art of Kate Bush, XTC and Nirvana.
