The Eight (Giclee Limited Edition of 950) by Cyril Power

This is a giclee reproduction of  a 1930 Linocut which is one of Power’s most admired prints. Not far from Power’s studio in London was Hammersmith Bridge and from here he would watch the racing skulls skim along the Thames in practice for the Head of the River race. Power made many sketches and drawings of the rowers in preparation for the final print. There is a real accuracy in the depiction of the rowers combined with the beautiful harmony in the pallet of colours. The geometry of the composition has been likened to an arrangement of seeds or leaves on a plant.
