Dominos is a traditional pub game and in this print the two regulars play whilst, above them, the landlord looks on with enjoyment. Edward Ardizzone was an accomplished illustrator and writer. He was an official war artist during WWII but returned to book illustration after the war. Ardizzone loved the locals he frequented and did much of his creative thinking over a pint of good bitter. He could often be seen sketching on anything he had to hand, a bus ticket, a cigarette packet or a beer mat.
