25 Years since the death of Andy Warhol

Its 25 years ago to the day the Pop artist Andy Warhol died. Andy Warhol was one of the icons of 20th Century art, putting as much effort into publicising himself as producing his art. Andy Warhol is probably best known for his mass produced images of cultural icons from Campbell’s soup cans to Marilynn Monroe. He is also credited with the quote that "In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes." He was one of the first artists to use silkscreen printing to produce his work in his studio called the ‘Factory’. However he worked in a huge variety of mediums including film and photography as well as being involved with the band the Velvet Underground. His influence on future generations of artist can still be seen in work like Pure Evils Nightmare series of prints and the use of silkscreen printing by a wide range of artists. The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts was also set up as requested by Warhol in his will to "to foster innovative artistic expression and the creative process".
