Some of the favourite pieces amongst the staff at artrepublic come from the lovely Joe Webb. As part of series of several prinst of the same title “Antares and Love IV” is a magical, sparkly piece using vintage 1950s imagery and re-presenting them within a new context. Webb has a strong belief in the handmade, creating his collages without the use of computers. His original collages have been turned into high quality prints using finishes including diamond dust, embossing and silver leaf complimenting the artist hand-made philosophy. By his own admission his work is heavily influenced by surrealist artist Magritte, visible in the way figures often exist in their absence, within a passionate embrace of another.  They are beautifully starry-eyed and romantic making them a perfect present for a loved one!

Jake Wood-Evans takes classical oil painting and brings it into the present day. His latest print release “Lucid Dream” draws you into an ethereal natural landscape where two naked figures stand at the edge of the green waters. Highly atmospheric and often slightly unsettling his work invites the viewer’s imagination to wander and contemplate the dream-like scene. In a refreshingly talented take on figurative painting he uses a traditional medium and genre but succeeds in creating modern and highly interesting work. So go on... dive in... immerse yourself into the mesmerising world of a talented contemporary Brighton artist.

One of their first prints in the Brighton gallery and already proving quite popular due to its humorous interpretation of Shakespeare’s famous play “Much Ado About Nothing”. The Connor Brothers, twins Brendan and Franklyn, are no strangers to the alternative. Raised within a highly secretive cult alongside the actors River and Joaquin Phoenix they were largely sheltered from the outside world with no access to modern media. On escaping the commune their thirst for knowledge and sharing information developed into making art together as a way of “trying to make sense of the world”. Consequently their work contains many literary and historical references. This particular print, presented and an ornately decorated book cover, reconfigures the title "A Load of Fuss Abour F**k All" simultaneously honouring and subverting its content. We love its clever simplicity.
