Inside Job: Street Art In Tel Aviv at Tel Aviv Museum of Art on artrepublic.com
Exhibition running from Aug 26 2011
until Jan 12 2012
Inside Job is the first major exhibition of street art in the Tel Aviv museum and has taken over 2 years in the planning with the goal to increase awareness of the artists' creativity and to engage new audiences to the art form. The exhibition presents the major street artists active in Tel Aviv, including AME72, Adi Sened, Broken Fingaz, Foma <3, Klone, Know Hope, Yochai Matos, Zero Cents. It explores their different ways of dealing with the shift from the bustle of detail-laden streets to the Museum's white walls. In recent years, walls and derelict buildings in Tel Aviv have been covered with various images: from simple slogans and complex graffiti to carefully executed colourful compositions. These works, some in large format, some small and hidden, are unique in the daring and innovation they demonstrate regarding street/art relations, and display the various styles of the artists and their techniques (aerosol, acrylic, pasting and stencils). The works, some colourful, some black and white, are all made clandestinely and illicitly, and their execution requires skill, talent, speed and excellent spatial perception. As part of the exhibition AME72 has painted a magnificent 10m x 4m mural inside the museum consisting of stencils and mixed media to create a powerful combination of colour and thought provoking imagery. Museum visitors will also be able to leave their own virtual mark in the museum by way of using the new AME72 iPhone & iPad iTag Graffiti, a graffiti paint application which will be projected onto the inside walls.
