Museum Collection at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art on artrepublic.com
Exhibition running from Apr 01 2008
On the North Zealand coast of Denmark surrounded by acres of parkland, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art houses an impressive collection of Modern Art and regularly hosts major exhibitions on modern and contemporary art, including classical masters of modern art as well as new and upcoming international artists.
This artistic space has been carefully designed as a setting to provide "a congenial reflection of the interplay between art, architecture and landscape". The landscape is used as an interactive backdrop for around 60 works of sculpture by principal international artists such as Jean Arp, Alexander Calder and Joan Miro. An important part of the sculpture collection is a set of 13 works by Giacometti.
Inside the building itself the main part of the collection takes its starting point in the years just after the second world war. There is a notable collection of art from the 60s, 70s and 80s from Nouveau Realisme to Pop Art, including Lichtenstein, Rauschenberg and Warhol. The 1990s are represented by installation artists Mona Hatoum, Paul McCarthy and Mike Kelley, and the exhibition schedule embraces the international art world's newest talents.
