The Permanent Collection at American Museum Of Moving Image on artrepublic.com

Exhibition running from Apr 01 2008

The Museum opened to the public in 1988 after Rochelle Slovin was appointed as Executive Director by the Astoria Motion Picture and Television Center Foundation, to run their public education programme.

Using the old 1920s Astoria Studios which had been abandoned in 1977, the 50,000 square-foot listed building was completely renovated from an existing studio structure by the noted architectural firm of Gwathmey Siegel and Associates.

Consisting of three floors of exhibition space, the state of the art 200-seat Riklis Theater, commissioned art installations, a Museum shop, and a café, the museum shows more than 300 programmes a year ranging from silent films and Hollywood classics through to digital art, television documentaries and animation, as well as showing series of lectures by industry professionals.
