The Albright-Knox Art Gallery was built as a Fine Art Pavilion for the Pan American Exposistion in 1901, however it was not finished until 1905. A rich permanent collection has been built up from donations from includes artifacts from 3,000BC and follows arts history to a large collection of post war American and European art.

Nineteenth century artists from Europe are represented by artists such as Modigliani, Marc, Van Gogh and Delauney, whilst the Twentieth Century American artists are also abundant. Rothko is shown, including his work ‘Orange and Yellow’, as well as Rauschenberg, Bearden, De Kooning, Motherwell, Johns and O’Keefe. Frida Kahlo, the Mexican artist, has her painting titled ‘Self Portrait With Monkey’ held here also.
