Permanent Collection at Guggenheim Museum Bilbao on artrepublic.com

Exhibition running from Apr 01 2008

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is celebrating the Tenth Anniversary of its opening in 2007. The project launched more than 15 years ago as part of an ambitious Plan of Urban Regeneration, in which the Basque institutions and citizens placed great expectation, has come to maturity and experienced consolidation, not only as an element promoting transformation of the Basque Country from the cultural, urban and architectural points of view, but also as an artistic reference on an international scale.

Almost a hundred exhibitions (42 from the Permanent Collection and 42 temporary exhibitions), having helped over nine million people to improve their knowledge of modern and contemporary art; more than 15,400 Museum Members, the biggest group in Spain and one of the largest in Europe; almost two million participants in more than 50 educational programs; nearly 150 companies backing the Museum activity, EUR1,572 in additional income for the Basque tax system, and an average self-funding of 75% over this period, ratify the fact that the so-called “Bilbao effect” is now a solid reality.

In addition to the anticipated commemorative events, the Tenth Anniversary of the Museum is the perfect occasion to boost the quality and diversity of its Art Program, bringing art closer to society as a whole. The exhibition calendar at the Guggenheim Museum for 2007 comprises three presentations from the Permanent Collection and five temporary exhibitions. Magnificent retrospectives such as that dedicated to leading Neo-expressionist, Anselm Kiefer, or Palazuelo. Work Process, a wide selection of works by the artist, some never exhibited in public before, will share the agenda in 2007 with USArt: 300 Years of Innovation, reflecting with some 200 works of art the diversity of the cultural, political, economic and artistic panorama in the USA, and Albrecht Dürer: Prints from the Collection of the Städel Museum, an exceptional occasion to discover the meaning of graphic work in this artist’s creation as a whole.
