Peter Blake biography in Biographies from the artzine on artrepublic.com

Sir Peter Blake is one of the leading figures in British pop art. Best known for the iconic album cover for the Beatles ‘Sergeant Pepper’, Blake’s work is inspired by his love affair with icons and the ephemera of popular culture.

He is continuing to produce a prolific output of work from his studio in Hammersmith. Most recent works include the ‘found’ series of art works using the latest computer technology to create large scale works from found objects such as cigarette packets and match boxes.

Peter Blake was born in 1932 in Dartford Kent. He graduated from the Royal collage of art in 1956 and studied Folk art in various European countries. Through the 60’s and 70’s he taught at various art schools. In 1969 Blake became a Ruralist and left the city to live in the country founding the ‘Brotherhood of Rurualists’ in 1975.
