Helen Turner biography in Biographies from the artzine on artrepublic.com

Helen Turner's work has a strong physical presence and vigorously paired-down compositions. In her original paintings she uses a range of materials from pieces of knitted wool, gloss paint and metallic paper.

‘My work is about the discovery of an imaginary world as well as a response to seen and felt experiences, including popular and historical culture. The interaction of a variety of materials together with the physical activity of painting itself is an important part of my work.’ Helen Turner.

Helen Turner was born in Bromley in 1964 and studied at Canterbury College of Art, UK and Cyprus College of Art. She was "Artist of the Day" in 2006 at Flowers Central Gallery (London) and she was selected for the John Moores 25 Contemporary Painting Prize in 2001.
