This year Brighton Festival Fringe, runs from May 7 to 30 with over 700 events at more than 200 venues across Brighton and Hove. For many years artrepublic has worked with the Fringe to help promote the finest artistic talent from Brighton and beyond. 2010 visual arts highlights include:Ink_d Gallery 96 North Road 7th – 30th May Modern Cloth is a ground breaking exhibition of innovative tea towel 'clothworks' and new prints from Modern Toss, plus an indispensable capsule collection of last minute commemorative royal shitnaks. Books for Amnesty Bookshop 15 Sydney Street 7th – 30th May 'Even Though I'm Free I Am Not', an exhibition of photographs by James Mackay, a London-based freelance documentary photographer, of former Burmese political prisoners coming together to raise awareness for their colleagues who remain in jail. James is working in collaboration with the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (Burma) and Democratic Voice of Burma. Seeing Taste @ Ten Green Bottles Ten Green Bottles 9 Jubilee St 7th – 30th May Synaesthetic artist Philippa Stanton shows new abstract paintings depicting taste and bouquet of a selection of fantastic wines from ‘Ten Green Bottles’. Philippa recently featured on BBC1’s Horizon, and her paintings offer vivid and textural responses to taste. A unique, interactive opportunity to view art, and enjoy a glass of the subject matter! The Pheonix Gallery 10–14 Waterloo Place 31 May 2011, Midnight An Art Trail through Central Brighton at 12 sites, exploring The U.N. Treaty of Children's Rights. Starts at Pheonix Place, on the side of The Pheonix Gallery. Various Venues 1st – 15th May Creative work produced by young people, aged 11-25, through voluntary and statutory services across the city. Paperback 2011: Silva Magna (Big Forest) Jubilee Library Jubilee Street Sat & Sun from 8th-29th May Brighton & Hove Library staff exhibiting a diverse collection of art work in Jubilee Library in celebration of the International Year of Forests. Works include painting, photography and sculpture. Brighton and Sussex Medical School Teaching Building University of Sussex 28th – 29th May Innovative artworks created by students at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, using installation, performance, intervention, sculpture, painting, photography, video and digital media as a means of communicating ideas about medicine and bio-medical science. Works by professional artists involved with the medical school will be shown alongside, plus a new series of works by students making art with microbes. Also on 28th of May Perspectives on Art and Medicine symposium Farley Farm House Muddles Green Sat & Sun from 14th-29th May Experience the extraordinary atmosphere of the Sussex home of Lee Miller and Roland Penrose, whose guests included Picasso and Miró. 50 minute guided tours of the house are complimented by a free exhibition in Farleys Barn Gallery and the opportunity to explore the sculpture garden. Emmaus Brighton & Hove Drove Road 3rd – 31st May Prepare to be dazzled by this amazing knitted creation. The Goodwill co-op, a Community arts & crafts project based at Emmaus Brighton & Hove have recreated the entire contents of a living room, all knitted! . Items included are knitted furniture, fireplace, a piano, cuckoo clock, pet cat, goldfish & budgerigar, bicycle, chandelier and even a copy of the Argus!
