Spotlight on Lidia De Pedro in articles from the artzine on artrepublic.com

With her new solo show The Best Man and Company just open, we focus on Lidia De Pedro and the mass appeal that her work is attracting.

Since her inaugural limited edition ‘Inma La Dulce’ first appeared and got snapped super quick Lidia De Pedro’s ride from graphic artist/designer to fully fledged contemporary artist has been swift, but fully deserved.

Her early prints, which are still always kept at a collectable edition size of 25, were based around close family members and served as a metaphysical study of each relation. The prints were loaded with references and indications to their individual personalities and those examined where her mother, dad and a cousin see in the prints below.

Her work has simply progressed from this early exploration into family and now seemingly touches upon every aspect of society, mainly resting with the media and its influences on upon us, as her inspiration.

Although Lidia is not a street artist the look of her work does touch upon urban and interacts very well with the work of graffiti artists, mainly because of her flamboyant and colourful compositions and bold statements. Her work is also extremely refreshing as we are becoming increasingly bogged down with artwork centring on the depressing realities of today’s politics and economy.

Lidia, who hails from Spain, was discovered by the gallery when she was working for a local graphic design company in Brighton. She is a natural born traveller and loves to move to new cities and indulge in all the cultural differences and fun she encounters. She has a passion for creating powerful, thought provoking images, trying new techniques and experimenting with materials.
